Cancer Detection
When cells transform from normal to cancerous, a number of changes occur in the chemical content. These changes may be detectable by DESI-MS imaging during tissue analysis, which could provide another diagnostic tool for physicians.
In a preliminary experiment, DESI-MS was used to image a section of a resected human liver cancer. The distribution of some chemicals differ noticeable between the normal and the tumor tissue.
