Human Genitourinary (GU) Cancer Research
In collaboration with physicians at Indiana University School of Medicine, we have used our DESI-MS imaging technology to study different types of genitourinary cancers, such as bladder, kidney, prostate and testicular cancers. The experiments measure the changes in lipid profiles that occur in tissue due to cancer, as detected by DESI-MS imaging of tissue sections from biopsy samples. We have successfully shown that characteristic and distinct lipid profiles are observed from cancerous and adjacent normal tissue, which enables diagnosis to be achieved based on the molecular information. Future research projects in this area are focused validating and expanding tissue imaging experiments andon translating our technology to the clinical setting.
