Direct Tissue Analysis
In this experiment, DESI-MS was used to image a thin section of rat brain. The figure above shows the distribution of eight different molecular ions detected from the tissue. The abundance of the ions is shown using the color scale at the bottom of the figure. An example mass spectrum (mass of the ions plotted with intensity) is shown to the right. In order to construct the ion images of the rat brain section, about 5000 mass spectra were collected covering the tissue.
